  •  co-occuring problems,

Biographical Data     I've been a psychotherapist in Boulder since 1994, when I graduated from The Naropa Institute (now Naropa University). I have a gift for being able to see patterns in life and human behaviors. Because of this and the many years I've spent working with people from a diverse variety of backgrounds, I noticed that foiks with the most severe problems had trauma histories, both from their upbringing and things that happened since then. Intrigued by this co-relation, I began my ongoing education in how traumatic experiences and chronic stress create suffering, and how current psychotherapies, such as Brainspotting, can alleviate it. I use my therapeutic toolkit in the context of helping people better learn to live in the present moment and with a strong appreciation for the role of spirituality in the healing process.

Biography:
Areas of specialization
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Anger Management
Biography As you can see by my resume (go to my website – “About the Therapist” page) I have spent the last 40 years in the business of helping people deal with those issues in their lives that have limited them in some way. I have worked with people of all ages in all kinds of mental health and drug/alcohol facilities and situations. After graduating from the Columbia University Social Work program, I completed a number of post-graduate programs to assist me in helping others, as well as myself, resolve their issues. I have been trained and/or certified in some of the most progressive and effective therapies out there today, some of them being so cutting-edge and new that most people don’t know about them, Brainspotting being the most profound of these new therapies. My journey to heal myself and others has opened many doors to find incredibly effective and relatively easy and quick ways to release one’s anxiety, depression and excess anger (or any other negative feelings) FOREVER, with Brainspotting being the frontrunner of these new therapies in relation to the depth of traumatic material processed and the relative ease while doing so. I know that these methods work because I’ve used them on myself. I used to be a “rageaholic”, and suffered from high anxiety and bouts of depression in my earlier adulthood. I was in talk therapy for 10 of 15 years at that time of my life and I walked out of those 10 years of talk therapy with as much rage and anxiety as I had when I walked in. Why? Because you don’t let go of your rage and intense anxiety in traditional talk therapy. You learn how to “manage” it and relieve the symptoms perhaps, with drugs, saying positive things to yourself, etc., but you don’t truly release the “roots” of that trauma in talk therapy. All of these conditions are caused by trauma that gets “frozen” in our neurobiology. All of the methods I utilize (especially Brainspotting) “unfreeze” and let go of this trauma, thus allowing our true pure essence to shine once again. I don’t use any methodology of treatment with my clients unless it gives me a personal “wow” in my work on myself. And, I must say the one methodology that gives me the most “WOW” is Brainspotting. The discovery of Brainspotting by Dr. David Grand is incredibly miraculous in itself and I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Grand for discovering it. And, when combined with the methods that Lisa Schwarz has developed in relation to dissociation and attachment, I am very confident that there is no issue which can not be let go of FOREVER, relatively quickly, easily and very efficiently. And, I can help you do just that. Those therapeutic methods I am Certified and/or trained in include the following: - Brainspotting - Level I, Resource Brainspotting w/Attachment & Dissociation, Performance Enhancement - Level I and Level II of E.M.D.R. (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) - I.M.T. (an accupressure techique called Integrated Meridian Therapy) which used to be a shorter version of E.F.T. (Emotional Freedom Techniques) - Certified as a Hypnotherapist by the American Board of Hypnotherapists, and - Certified Imago Couples/Family Therapist - Reiki Master (6th generation Usui lineage)

Beginning therapy can be daunting but immensely rewarding. If you're feeling anxious or depressed, struggling in your relationships, or finding that your life, which appears to be okay from the outside, has left you unfulfilled, know that you can move past the pain, frustration, lack of direction, self-doubt, disappointment, or mediocrity. There is enormous opportunity to improve your life by understanding how the past has affected your current perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and actions. The best way to choose the right therapist is to trust your instinct, which is why I encourage you to come in for a consultation.

I have an eclectic, relational, psychodynamic approach informed by a variety of theoretical orientations, which allows me to use the specific techniques that work best for each client or couple and are in sync with the client's preferences. I speak Spanish, French and German.

I have a BA in Psychology from Dartmouth College, Phi Beta Kappa. I was a professor of psychology at a university in Madrid, where I had a private practice. I am constantly deepening my clinical skills through on-going training to be the most effective & beneficial therapist to my clients.
Biographical Data    Many of the people I work with are educated, accomplished high-functioning individuals whose lives are ostensibly very successful but they are internally struggling with: relationship issues, interpersonal issues, low self-esteem, substance use and abuse, body issues, career choices, fulfillment, depression, anxiety, and creativity. It can be very hard to seek help for people who have been taught that through hard work and intelligence they can solve any problem. However, when it comes to emotions and deep-seeded patterns, all of the rational, logical, and conscious thought often cannot solve the issue(s), problem(s), or discomfort. I also work with and very much welcome people whose lives are not so overtly on track.

Biography:
BIRGIT KOENIG practices as
  • Psychoanalytic therapist (since 1980)
  • Hypnotherapist
  • EMDR practitioner
  • Brainspotting master-practitioner and supervisor
She has worked in research, teaching and as a therapist in the medical faculties of the University of Tuebingen (Children's Hospital), The University of Ulm (Psychoanalytic-Psychosomatic Department) and in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Bremen. As an IAIDO disciple and horse trainer for long years she early encountered and conceptualized the idea of 'attunement'. Since 1995 she has been psychologist in her private practice for children, adolescents and adults. With nearly 35 years of experience in research and therapy she transcended more and more the narrow models of specific therapeutic doctrines, tried to integrate the core items and attempted to extract the essence. Now she is very enthusiastic about Brainspotting (BSP) and considers it - especially in his neuro-physiological aspects - 'the essence of healing in the wider frame of attunement'. The focus of her academic work is to find the scientific equivalent of 'attunement', in her practice she is keen to document ways to help her clients for personal benefit and spiritual growth.

In-Sight: Solution Focused Therapy Other Seattle, WA 98107 USA Phone: 206-351-5894 Visit Website
Biography:
Areas of specialization     In-Sight is solution focused. By using an approach that integrates the best parts of traditional talk therapy along with Brainspotting, EMDR and other bi-lateral psychotherapy models, I am able to significantly accelerate the therapeutic process. If I had to name one specialization, it would be working with clients who have already done a lot of therapy. They are tired of "just talking" about it. They understand their issues from the neck up. Our work together helps to make the connections to their bodies; we get their body to know what their brain already does. Biographical Data Brena Lever is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (#LW00007098) and a Certified EMDR Therapist. She received her Masters of Social Work, with a specialization in Occupational Social Work, from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She has worked in many settings, including forensic, emergency medicine, Employee Assistance Programs and international adoption. In these positions, she has worked as both a clinician and a consultant. As a Certified EMDR practitioner, Brena combines this advanced therapy model with more traditional models, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), allowing her to design a treatment plan that best fits the individual needs of each client. Her treatment model emphasizes setting goals and developing strategies to attain them. Brena’s additional training has included the following: Brainspotting, Lifespan Integration, Imaginal Nurturing, Crisis Intervention, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Management and Mediation and Conflict Resolution.

Biography:

Biographical Data

As a practicing psychologist with 15 years experience, I started to witness and appreciate the life changing power of EMDR and Branspotting in my professional practice. It truly transformed my knowledge, skills, experiences into a cohesive, organic, holistic, and fluid skill set that a seasoned professional can harness to effectively heal and rapidly relieve human pain and suffering.

Life has afforded me diverse experiences. I grew up in rural China during the Cultural Revolution as a member of “Inferior Class” and as an adopted and abused child. I certainly understand how it feels to be "an outcast" and how to work hard to overcome adversity and achieve life goals. I taught elementary and middle school, earned my Bachelor degree in biology, and then taught educational psychology in college. Winning a university wide English Proficiency Test in 1986 earned me an opportunity to study abroad. In the Clinical Psychology Masters Program, I was especially appreciated for the unique blend of Confucius and Taoism with Psychodynamic Object Relations. After an eye opening Masters Clinical Internship in the correctional system, I had opportunity to work with elementary school children on academic and IQ measurement, with emotionally challenged teenagers as a School Psychologist, and with the mentally challenged in residential facilities.

My doctorate work was in counseling psychology with a minor concentration in Medical Behavioral Science at from University of Kentucky. After a full year Internship at Boston University Counseling Center, I spent seven years in a state hospital gaining tremendous clinical expertise from working with the severely mentally ill. Since late 90s, my practice shifted to community mental health to develop expertise in psychological testing and evaluation, especially sexual offending risk evaluation, individual and group work on stress and anger management, and on prevention and treatment of criminal behaviors. In treatment modality, I have extensive training in DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy, biofeedback and neurofeedback, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and most recently Brainspotting.

EMDR and Brainspotting turned my diverse background into assets and resources. It bridges my biological and psychological perspectives; and it allowed for flexible, creative, and artistic integration of all the tools and expertise I've learned and developed. I am forever grateful to all my mentors for making me the most effective clinician that I can be for my clients.

Trauma (PTSD), Anxiety, Phobias, Depression, OCD, Addictive Behaviors, Self Esteem, Relationship issues.  Individual, Couples, Families, Groups, Workshops.

Biographical Data:
I’ve always known that my mission in life is to help others and began “counseling” when I was very young. Now I attend trainings to continue learning the most advanced healing modalities available so I can find the best combination for each individual person. My family says I began counseling my friends before I began going to school as a child and just never stopped. I was born in post war Germany to American parents and lived there until I was 21 and moved to Tucson in 1973.  I’ve had several businesses but have always been interested in psychology, metaphysics, spirituality, personal growth, meditation and yoga.  I began working on my issues in 73 and began my daily meditation and yoga practice in 1978. It gives me the foundation for all my personal growth, especially my enthusiasm for life, my attitude, my balance and intuition. I have a Masters in Counseling and Human Relations from NAU, I’m a State/National Certified/Licensed Professional Counselor, Substance Abuse Counselor, a Clinical Hypnotherapist, and a non-denominational Minister.  I have been working in the health field since 1973.  My professional work in this field began when I became the assistant to a Psychologist at the University of Arizona, then volunteered as a group counselor in non-profit and state funded treatment centers.  I attended the
University of Arizona, Pima College, Ottawa University and graduated from Northern Arizona University.  I did my internship and thesis in eating disorders and developed the adolescent eating disorder program at Northwest Hospital’s West Center in 1988.  I also worked at several in-patient/out-patient treatment programs such as the highly rated Sierra Tucson Treatment Center, at Sahuaro Vista Ranch, and the
acclaimed 3HO treatment program run by the Sikhs.  I worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups, also doing lectures for patient and family member audiences.  At some of the treatment centers
I also taught Meditation and Yoga. I was trained in experiential, expressive, and Gestalt therapy in the early 70’s, became certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner in 1982, trained in
Kinesiology (Muscle Testing) in the early 80‘s, was trained in 1993 by Francine Shapiro who discovered EMDR, and with David Grand and Lisa Schwarz who teach Brainspotting. I was trained by Gary Craig, the
founder of EFT, in 1997 when he first began teaching and am currently helping him with  research on growing bone using EFT.  I have continued to be trained by many of the developers of other Energy
Psychology techniques. I  became a non-denominational Minister in 1992 and have performed Weddings and Memorial Services. I use many modalities and most of them I am able to teach to my clients/patients
so they will know how to deal with the their present challenges and opportunities and for all those that life will be bringing them in the future. My clients usually experience a healthy integration of their bodies, minds and spirits, and they feel more confident with an overall sense of well-being and purpose.  I am writing a book on intuition, spirituality, animals, and how to live life with a loving attitude despite circumstances.
